How to keep your cell phone secure

One of the issues that have never been properly handled is the issue of cell phone security. Many people have found it almost impossible to keep their cell phones totally secure unless they rarely use their phones. Almost 90% of mobile phone users have had their cell phones lost or stolen. It seems to be on the increase considering these hard economic times we are facing. People have to look for ways of putting food on the table and thus may result to crimes such as theft and mugging. With all these, there are some things you would want to know about your phone.

One precaution you may want to take is to know the serial/IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of your phone. This you can know by dialing *#06#. In case you lose your phone or it gets stolen, when you take this number to the mobile phone service providers they will be able to block the cell phone from working and the person who has it will not benefit from it. This may not be total security because it does not get your phone back. For future reference, I would advise you to dial this number and keep the IMEI number in safe place.

Advancements in technology have enabled programmers to come up with software that can track where your mobile phone is. Increasing cases of mobile phone theft are bound to drop because of this. This technology is known as Ujanja Lost Mobile Tracking Software. This software is downloadable on 3G cell phones that are data enabled and also internet enabled. The software can be downloaded directly to your phone if you have internet connection on your cell phone or onto the PC or laptop then have it transferred to you phone. You have to purchase an activation code.
So in case you lose your phone or it gets stolen, once the person who has it removes your sim card from that phone and replaces it, an sms is sent to a certain preferred phone number (which you had provided during the download of the tracking software) giving the number and sim card details of the person using the handset. You can then call the person and tell them that they are using your phone. You can inform the relevant authorities and have your phone recovered.
